Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho contacts Sergi Roberto: Barcelona star wants assurances

JOSE MOURINHO is in regular contact with Barcelona star Sergi Roberto over a proposed transfer.
The Manchester United boss has already splashed the cash this summer in midfield with Nemanja Matic arriving from Chelsea in a £40million move.

But the Portuguese boss isn’t stopping there as he knows he needs to add quality and depth to his squad with the added return of Champions League football next term.

And reports in Spain suggest he is considering a move for Barcelona’s Roberto.

Roberto impressed under Luis Enrique last season and recorded one of the most memorable moments of their campaign when he scored a late goal in Barca’s miraculous comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
But with Ernesto Valverde arriving at the helm and the former Athletic Bilbao boss keen to bring in midfield additions, Roberto is fearing for his place.

Barca have been strongly linked with the likes of PSG’s Marco Verratti, Borussia Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembele, Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho and Guangzhou Evergrande midfielder Paulinho.

And Spanish publication Diario Gol claim Roberto won’t settle for a place on the bench if they land a marquee signing.

Roberto is considering
Despite being under contract with the Nou Camp outfit until 2019, the 25-year-old has refused to rule out an exit.

Old Trafford could well be a possible destination with Roberto a long-term admirer of the Portuguese boss, but Mourinho would need to guarantee he’d be a regular starter to convince him to join.

Roberto has asked Mourinho where he would fit into his plans before he makes a decision on his future.
