Chelsea boss Antonio Conte admits he could ditch 3-4-3 formation for Arsenal clash

ANTONIO CONTE has admitted he could deviate from his tried-and-tested 3-4-3 formation for the Community Shield clash with Arsenal this weekend.
Chelsea take on Arsenal in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday (2pm) in a repeat of the 2015 clash which the Gunners won 1-0.
Antonio Conte is keen to kick-start the season by winning some silverware and has talked up the importance of setting off on the right foot.

However, the Blues boss has admitted he could be forced to ditch his tried-and-tested 3-4-3 formation due to injuries.

The Stamford Bridge club are without Eden Hazard, Willian and Pedro, and Conte has admitted he may switch to a system with two strikers.
When asked about playing Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi as a front two, he replied: “In this moment it could be an option.

“When you have Hazard injured, Pedro injured and only Willian, I don’t see other options.

“For this reason I tried the combination of the two players.

“For sure, Alvaro wants to play as a number nine but with his characteristics he could play number 10.”
However, with Conte’s 3-4-3 formation proving so successful last term, the Italian admitted he is yet to make a decision on whether or not to change it.

“I have another day to make the best decision for the starting 11,” he added.

“Alvaro is working very well and trying to reach the best physical condition and go into our idea of football.

“He needs a bit of time but he is working very well. I don’t know what my decision will be but he is a really good player and a good person.”
