Mata nice guy
15:43: Juan Mata has announced he will donate one per cent of his salary to the Common Goal charity.
Mata is a regular blogger and used his social media profile to announce he is taking part in the initiative.
“Starting today, I am pledging 1 per cent of my salary to Common Goal, a collective fund — run by the award-winning NGO streetfootballworld — that supports football charities around the globe.
“It’s a small gesture that if shared can change the world.”
Klopp wanted Shaw
13:03: Liverpool approached Manchester United about signing Luke Shaw before eventually buying Andy Robertson.
And according to The Sun, Liverpool looked to take advantage of Shaw’s uncertain situation at Old Trafford by making an approach for the left-back.
But United knocked them back, reluctant to sell to their bitter rivals.
No player has been transferred directly between the two clubs since the Phil Chisnall’s move from from United to Liverpool in 1964.
Darmian future in doubt
12:30: Barcelona and Bayern Munich are sniffing around Manchester United full-back, Matteo Darmian.
Italian publication Calciomercato claim the heavyweights are looking to bolster their defensive ranks.
And view the versatile Italy international as the ideal candidate.
Darmian, 27, initially struggled to break into Jose Mourinho’s starting XI, but became a regular towards the end of the season.
£90m Bale bid
11:32: Manchester United are poised to make a £90m bid for Real Madrid star Gareth Bale.
The Spanish giants are set to tell Bale he is surplus to requirements as they target Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe.
And that is a major boost for United boss Jose Mourinho who is a massive fan of the former Tottenham ace.
Reports in Spain say Neymar’s world-record £199m move to Paris Saint-Germain has led Monaco to increase their valuation of Mbappe to £122m.
Real manager Zinedine Zidane is growing increasingly confident of landing the 18-year-old, but knows someone will have to be sacrificed in order to do so.
Sticking with Perisic
10:40: The 28-year-old has been offered a four-year contract at Inter Milan worth £21.7m.
Manchester United want to sign Perisic this summer but have not met Inter’s £48m demands.
And Tuttomercatoweb claim Inter offered Perisic the new deal yesterday.
The Croatia international can expect to pick up £104,000 a week if he pens the contract, which will run until 2022 and end United’s pursuit.
Perisic NOT leaving – Ausilio
09:50: Inter Milan chief Piero Ausilio insists sought-after wingers Ivan Perisic and Antonio Candreva are not for sale.
Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for Perisic all summer, with Jose Mourinho said to have made the Croatian his priority target.
While Candreva is said to have attracted interest from Premier League champions Chelsea in recent weeks.
Reports in Italy surfaced last week claiming Inter Milan were willing to offload the 30-year-old as he doesn’t suit manager Luciano Spalletti’s style.
But Inter sporting director Ausilio insists both Perisic and Candreva are not for sale.
“I don’t understand where some of these stories come from,” he told Mediaset Premium.
“Candreva has never been on the market and we have absolutely no intention of selling him.
“The same goes for Perisic, who is an important player and we are currently discussing a new contract with him.”
Leeds haven’t bid for United ace
09:00: Leeds United have not yet made an approach for Manchester United’s Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.
Leeds are eyeing a loan deal for the defender as they seek a left-back to replace new Burnley man Charlie Taylor.
Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has been identified after spending last season on loan at Wolves.
But the Yorkshire Post claim Leeds are yet to made their interest known to bosses at Old Trafford.
Harrop on exit
07:43: Josh Harrop says he had little contact with manager Jose Mourinho before leaving Manchester United for Preston.
Harrop scored on his Manchester United league debut at the end of last season but left the club this summer for North End.
“I didn’t really speak to the manager directly, but a few people within the club, and they basically said it was the right time to go out in the league and play,” he told the MEN.
“At United, I wasn’t going to be given the chance with the players coming in so it was the right time – even though I just made my debut. It was hard.”
Bastian wants Zlatan
07:18: Bastian Schweinsteiger hopes Zlatan Ibrahimovic joins him in the MLS.
Ibrahimovic is holding out for a new contract at Manchester United once he has recovered from his knee injury.
But former United player Schweinsteiger, who is now at Chicago Fire, is keen for the Swede to come to America.
“I spoke about Thomas Muller could also come and play here,” he said when asked about Ibrahimovic coming to MLS.
“The goal should be in maybe 10 years for the MLS to be on the same level as the Bundesliga or the English Premier League that would be great.”
Jaap Stam says Manchester United must win the title
06:00: Jaap Stam says Manchester United must win the Premier League given the signings they have made.
“A club like United, you always want to win the league. It’s always their aim. It has to be their aim, to win the league,” Stam told Sky Sports.
“You’re always looking as a manager, Mourinho as well, how last season went and what quality do we need. You’re going to be looking for that as a club.
“You can see now, with the signings that they’ve done, brought some great players in; quality-wise very good, experience-wise very good as well.
“That makes it interesting as well because if you look at the other teams as well, they’re all bringing good players in because they all want to win the league or do well in the Champions League.”
Jose Mourinho thinks he can sign Gareth Bale on the cheap
05:00: Jose Mourinho thinks he can sign Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale on the cheap.
Spanish outlet Don Balon say the Manchester United manager if confident of landing the Wales international.
And all for a fee of less than £90million.
In a day where Neymar costs a huge £200m, that would not be a bad piece of business.
Nemanja Matic targeting Super Cup glory
04:00: He has only been at Manchester United a few days.
But Nemanja Matic is targeting a first trophy when the Red Devils face Real Madrid in the European Super Cup.
“Of course. Every game is a new challenge and it is going to be the same against them,” he said.
“It is a big game when you play against Real Madrid and we are happy that we can compare our qualities with them.
“As you know they won the Champions League and they showed they are one of the biggest clubs in the world, so it will for sure be an interesting game for us, very hard but we will be ready.”

Juan Mata discusses Real Madrid clash
02:00: Juan Mata is being linked with a move to Roma, but the Manchester United star is targeting European Super Cup glory over Real Madrid next week.
“I’ve been lucky to have played in two [Super Cups] and unlucky to have lost two, so maybe it’ll be third time lucky,” he said.
“Last season was a good season, now we have an opportunity this season to lift more [trophies].
“Next week we have the chance to lift another one which is going to be difficult against a team like Real Madrid. Our minds are now focused on that.”

That’s according to The Sun, who say Frank De Boer is keen on a reunion with his compatriot.

Thursday August 3

22:30: Juan Mata is wanted by Roma, reports in Italy have said.
The Manchester United midfielder – despite being popular among fans and coaches – is not guaranteed regular game time.
Roma have spent the summer chasing Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez.
But, should they fail to snap up the Algeria international, they will supposedly go for Mata instead.
Gareth Bale deal claim
19:25: Spanish newspaper Marca say Real are open to letting Bale go in order to sign Kylian Mbappe this summer.
Zinedine Zidane has already sold Alvaro Morata but he’s said not to want four attackers – in Cristiano Ronaldo, Bale, Karim Benzema and Mbappe – in his squad.
Zidane held talks with president Florentino Perez in June – before the Champions League final in Cardiff – to let him know this was the case.
He said if Mbappe was to join – and Zidane is a huge fan of his – that one of the big boys had to go.
Why did Neymar not join Man Utd?
18:58: Neymar was on Manchester United’s radar and a transfer deal was on the cards.
It didn’t go through – but why? Express Sport look at the reasons why a deal didn’t happen.
Here’s the full rundown on why Neymar’s move to Old Trafford fell through.

Roma eye Mata
14:40: Roma have identified Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata as an alternative to first-choice target Riyad Mahrez, reports claim.
Roma haven’t managed to strike a deal with Leicester for their £35million-rated Algeria international.

The Spaniard’s contract is due to expire next season, and might be able to secure his signature for a reduced price.
Leeds close to Borthwick-Jackson deal
14:00: Manchester United youngster Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is on the verge of joining Leeds.
ESPN FC claim the 20-year-old has agreed to join the Championship outfit on a season-long loan to gain regular first-team football.
Borthwick-Jackson spent last season on loan at Wolves and had not been involved in United’s pre-season preparations.
Leeds coach Thomas Christiansen has been searching for a defender to replace Charlie Taylor, who joined Burnley, and has identified Borthwick-Jackson as the ideal candidate.
Chelsea hijack Aurier bid
13:10: Chelsea are to make a late bid to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Serge Aurier from under the noses of Manchester United.
There are mixed reports linking Manchester United to right-back Aurier.
The Mirror claim United have agreed a £27million fee for the player, although Sky Sports suggest other targets are on Jose Mourinho’s radar.
The defender cannot move to the Premier League until he gets approval from the UK authorities that he can work in the country after being arrested in France last year.
And French outlet Le 10 Sport claim Chelsea are hoping the wait gives them time to launch a rival offer for Aurier.
According to the report, Chelsea have declared their interest in the player and will make a suitable bid this summer.
£48m for Perisic
10:40: Inter Milan have given Manchester United until next Friday to match their valuation of Ivan Perisic of drop their interest.

Sancho to ditch City
09:50: Manchester City teenager Jadon Sancho has NOT trained with the club since last week, and has traveled to London to force though a move, reports suggest.
The Independent claim Sancho, 17, is being tracked by North London duo Arsenal and Tottenham, and is open to joining either.
Sancho wants out of the Etihad as he hopes to find a clearer pathway to first-team football than he has so far been unable to achieve at City.
The Manchester Evening News claim Manchester United are also interested in the talented midfielder.
Perisic ultimatum
09:00: Manchester United still have an outside chance of signing Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic, reports claim.
Italian newspaper La Gazzetta Dello Sport suggest the transfer has been revived after Inter handed Perisic an ultimatum.

The Serie A side value Perisic at £40million, and would like Anthony Martial on a season-loan loan.
Matic is a genius – Mourinho
08:00: Jose Mourinho hailed new signing Nemanja Matic “a genius” as the holding midfielder made his Manchester United debut.
Matic started for the Red Devils in their 2-1 friendly win over Sampdoria in Dublin yesterday following his £40million switch from Chelsea.
He lasted 45 minutes, with Mourinho admitting the Serbian still lacked full match fitness.
“He needs time but his experience, intelligence, a genius in the way he thinks – he thinks football,” Mourinho said.
“We will help him to be ready sooner rather than later.”

06:00: Nemanja Matic has aimed a dig at Chelsea by hinting his new Manchester United team-mates are a class above.
Matic started for the Red Devils for the first time in their 2-1 win over Sampdoria.
And, speaking afterwards, he said: “They are amazing.
“I played in a few clubs in my career, but these guys are amazing.”
Manchester United could still yet have Neymar in their ranks one day
Ivan Perisic to Manchester United is off
05:20: Gianluca Di Marzio says Manchester United have cooled their interest in Ivan Perisic.
The Inter Milan winger has been regularly backed to make the move to Old Trafford.
But United are now supposedly no longer in the market for the Croatia international.
Perisic scored 11 times for Inter last term and has had an impressive pre-season, getting on the scoresheet against Chelsea.
Anthony Martial will be staying, says Jose Mourinho
05:00: Jose Mourinho has ruled out Anthony Martial joining Inter Milan.
Speaking after the Red Devils’ win over Sampdoria, he said the France international was very much in his plans for the forthcoming campaign.
“Everybody is in the plan. The plan is to have a good squad, not just a good team,” said Mourinho, when asked directly about Martial.
“[We need] options because we have important players injured for a long time. The will be back by the end of the year so our squad is not so big and we need options. We need different players.
“Lukaku, Martial, Rashford – they are all different players and we need everybody.
“It’s going to be good, to be funny, to choose the team for every match according to the plan or the opponnent. So the squad is good.”
Neymar might leave PSG for Old Trafford
04:40: So, Neymar is moving to PSG but Spanish outlet Don Balon say he still might end up signing for Manchester United further down the line.
They say he plans to stay for two to three years in France before leaving for a European heavyweight so he can win the Ballon d’Or.
That could work in United’s favour, with the player aware they admire him and also aware of the financial muscle they possess.
But, in bad news for Barcelona, he might also decide to join Real Madrid.
Nemanja Matic discusses first game since Chelsea move
04:20: Nemanja Matic admitted it felt ‘strange’ making his Manchester United debut against Sampdoria last night.
“It was strange because the team has played and had a good pre-season,” Matic told the club’s official website.
“I trained alone in London and it was strange for me and I tried to give my best.
“I tried to control the game well and to give balance to the side and I think for my first game, it was good for me.
“Step by step, I will get better and better and help the team achieve something this season.”
