Popular movie actor, Fiifi Coleman has stated categorically that there is no movie industry in Ghana.
In an interview on the Let’s Talk Entertainment Show (LTE) with Doreen Avio, ‘The Mask’ actor says producers only make their money from premieres.
“Nobody is doing the work and I understand it is because producers are not making their money back from it. Once you premiere a movie at the theatres that’s it. So, if you don’t break even or you don’t make your money back from the people who will come on a Saturday to see a premiere, that’s it. Your money is gone,” he said.
The actor, who also doubles as a movie director, lamented the fact that movie producers have not inculcated the idea of accepting our own culture into Ghanaians.
He continues that Ghanaians have been fed with foreign movies and series to the extent that they no longer accept anything Ghanaian.
While the movie industry is suffering, Fiifi Coleman noted that theatre is doing great than it was some years ago.
“Theatre is doing great. It’s a vibrant industry right now and I’m loving it. Five years, six years back there was only Roverman and we all doff our hat to Uncle Ebo and say listen, you open the eyes of the people and we are now feeding off the hard work that you did,” the actor said.
Fiifi Coleman is an actor known for his role in movies such as ‘Torn’, ‘Ties that Bind’, ‘The Mask’, ‘Pieces of Me’ and ‘The Most Beautiful Hour’.
