Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale after months of speculations has confirmed that “Sergeant Lee” in his popular song, ‘Taking Over’ is Stonebwoy.
According to him, the name fits his arch-rival, Stonebwoy.
Shortly after the release of the song in March this year, which featured Joint 77, Addi Self and Captan, speculations were rife that Shatta Wale was referring to Sonebwoy, even though he did not confirm that publicly.
Reacting to the speculations that the ‘Taking Over’ hit track was directed at him, Stonebwoy told Doreen Andoh in an interview on Cosmopolitan Mix on Joy FM, that he doubted that.
“Sincerely speaking I have to be real; I chanced upon the ‘Sergeant Lee’ thing twice and this is the third time I’m hearing it…listening to the song, I have to be sincere, I do not hear any shots thrown at me,” Stonebwoy said.
“For the Sergeant Lee word like you say, I don’t know – if it means something good, I take am sharp but if it doesn’t, then I don’t know what they are talking about [and] I wish to know…” he added.
However, speaking on ‘Kasahari Level’ on Adom FM Saturday, Shatta Wale disclosed that Stonebwoy is the Sergeant Lee.
“He is the one. I have said it. What can he do,” Shatta Wale quizzed when the host, Pope Skinny tried to find out if he was referring to Stonebwoy.
With reports that Stonebwoy also calls him ‘Corporal Nii’, the Kakai hit singer was quick to turn down the name stating that it is not nice.
According to him, he rather prefers the ‘Gbee Nabu’ name that rapper, Yaa Pono gave him.
“I don’t even like it (Corporal Nii), [I will rather] choose Gbee Naabu.”
Asked if he would ever do a song with Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale said he wouldn’t hesitate to do a song with him because: “Me, I’m into business. What I want to do is just work. If they are ready [for us to work] I am ever ready.”
