Darmian: I never gave up on United dream

09:20: Matteo Darmian insists he never gave up on his Manchester United career.

The Italian full-back was initially overlooked by Jose Mourinho, but has now established himself as first-choice left-back.

Darmian told Premium Sport: “I never let go, not even in the toughest moments, I tried to take advantage of every possibility, last year I played a lot, closing in a positive way: I want to start from there.

“United wants to keep me, and that’s what I like.

“I enjoyed being followed by Italian teams, although there was nothing concrete about any of them. In my future I see Manchester United, I’m fine here. So I think it is useless to talk about the market.”

Hammers plot Carvalho move

08:35: West Ham are ready to bid for Sporting Lisbon defensive midfielder William Carvalho, reports claim.

Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool have all previously been linked with the 25-year-old Portugal international.

But it’s Slaven Bilic’s West Ham who are prepared to make the first move.

The Daily Mail claim Bilic is still looking to add to his squad and will make a £25m bid for Carvalho in the coming days.

Zlatan doubts boost United hopes

07:30: Doubts over AC Milan’s interest in Zlatan Ibrahimovic have given Manchester United a boost.

United and Milan both want to sign Ibrahimovic, who is a free agent but is also out until the New Year with a knee injury.

United are said to have opened contract talks with the player, while Milan are also keen to re-sign their former striker.

But Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport claim the 35-year-old is not a realistic target for Milan, who need to strengthen this summer and who are closing in on a deal for Fiorentina’s Nikola Kalinic.

Gareth Bale dream

06:30: Jose Mourinho thinks Manchester United can sign Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale after performing background checks with the Spanish club.

Following their 2-1 European Super Cup defeat on Tuesday night, Jose Mourinho had dismissed the Red Devils’ pursuit of the Wales international as being over.

“I think now everybody knows he is going to stay,” Mourinho said.

However, despite his comments, there seems to be a belief behind the scenes that things might happen.

Reports yesterday claimed Florentino Perez had privately told the United manager that Bale could be allowed to leave should they receive a suitable offer.

And The Sun are now saying that Mourinho is confident he can still get a deal for the 27-year-old over the line.
David De Gea destined to join Real Madrid one day

04:00: Steve McManaman thinks David De Gea is destined to join Real Madrid in the future.

“They’ll end up taking him off United, definitely,” McManaman told BT Sport.

“They’ll take him next year or the year after. In the end if United aren’t delivering the trophies that De Gea wants, he’ll want to move to Madrid.

“He’s a Spanish boy. He’ll end up going back that way, it’s just when.”

Nemanja Matic signing for Manchester United could cost Chelsea

03:00: Phil Neville thinks Chelsea’s decision to let Manchester United sign Nemanja Matic could cost them the Premier League title.

“I can’t think of a reason why Chelsea would sell him [Matic],” Neville said on Sky Sports.

“If Nathaniel Chalobah or Ruben Loftus-Cheek were still there they could get rid of Matic and play a younger kid.

“United were crying out for a central midfielder with the qualities of Nemanja Matic. He is probably the best in England alongside N’Golo Kante.

“Chelsea have broken up that partnership and strengthened their rivals. All of a sudden United are in the driving seat ahead of Chelsea to win the Premier League.

“I think the [Matic] sale at this moment in time, with that Chelsea squad, could cost them the league.”

Gareth Bale praises Jose Mourinho

02:00: Manchester United have been regularly linked with a move for Gareth Bale.

And the Wales international has heaped praise on manager Jose Mourinho.

“It did them good to win a few trophies last year and I think they’re getting back to where they belong,” he said.

“They gave us a difficult game and I see no reason why they can’t be a force in the Champions League this season.

“Jose’s a great manager, he’s done everything in football, he knows what he’s doing and I’m sure he’s building a great team for what he hopes to achieve there. I’m sure they will do fantastic this season.”

Marcus Rashford tipped to outshine Romelu Lukaku

01:00: Manchester United shelled out £75million to sign Romelu Lukaku earlier this summer.

But pundit Steve Nicol thinks their new striker could be overshadowed by Marcus Rashford.

“I know they’ve signed Lukaku to put the ball in the back of the net, but I think if they’re to be successful the key will be Rashford,” Nicol told ESPN FC.

“I think Lukaku will take a lot of attention away and if Rashford can play in and around Lukaku, then he can score goals. If he plays wide I think he’s effective.

“A successful Man United for me means Rashford (playing well).

“I think he’s got all the qualities, he hasn’t quite managed to put it together.

“I think this season is a big season for him.”

Danny Rose opens door to Manchester United move

00:00: Danny Rose has hinted he would be open to joining Manchester United.

The Tottenham defender has said he wants to retire up north.

“I will say this too — I will play up north,” he told The Sun.

“I don’t know exactly when, but I will get back up north and play some football somewhere.

“I moved away from home (from Leeds to Spurs) at 16.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic deal latest
23:45: Manchester United have reportedly opened talks with Zlatan Ibrahimovic over a new deal.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was released by Manchester United in June after suffering a serious knee injury toward the end of last season.

The talismanic Swede has been allowed to receive treatment though at the club’s Carrington training complex as he continues his rehabilitation process.

United, the Daily Mail are interested in re-signing him, although the report doesn’t indicate how long a deal they would offer.

Jose Mourinho confirmed after the Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid that Ibrahimovic was closer to signing for United than any other club.

Isco was rejected

23:00: Manchester United turned down the chance to sign Isco during his days at Malaga.

That’s according to ESPN, who say the Spain international was scouted by Sir Alex Ferguson.

But the Scot ultimately rejected him because a report said his HEAD was too big.

“He’s good, but not quite quick enough and his head is too big for his body,” a report apparantly said.

Conte eyes Roberto

21:20: Antonio Conte has joined Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho in pursuing Barcelona star Sergi Roberto.

Spanish publication Sport claim it is Conte who is pushing hard to sign the midfielder and has asked Chelsea’s hierarchy to make contact with Barca over Roberto’s availability.

Roberto has a €40million (£36m) release clause in his Barca contract that currently runs until 2019.

The Blues have the funds available to activate his buy-out clause but are being cautious with their need to splash the cash, having already signed midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco for £40m.

Chelsea could even wait until the season has started before deciding whether to actively pursue Roberto.

‘Conte didn’t sanction Matic move’

20.10: Chelsea boss Antonio Conte did not want to let Nemanja Matic join a direct Premier League rival in Manchester United, according to Gary Neville.

Conte spoke glowingly about Matic this morning at Sky Sports’ live Premier League launch, saying the midfielder was a “big loss”.

Neville believes what Conte said shows he was not the person at Chelsea who allowed Matic to join a fellow competitor for the Premier League title.

“I have no doubt that he has not sanctioned that move, he is not happy with it and ultimately he is uncomfortable with it,” Neville said.

“I have to say that it is a strange move, it really is, to sell to one of your main rivals.”

Willian held talks with Man Utd

20:00: Willian has confirmed he did hold talks with Manchester United over a potential reunion with Jose Mourinho but insists he is happy at Chelsea.

“There were a few conversations with my agent. I worked with Mourinho and I became his friend as well,” he told Goal.

“He likes me a lot and I like him a lot as a coach and as a person. He has put his trust in me and in my work, and I was very grateful to him.

“Manchester came to me, they talked with my agent, but nothing happened, because Chelsea would not negotiate me in any way and I’m very happy at Chelsea.”

Mourinho won’t pay more than £72m for Bale

18:40: Jose Mourinho remains keen on bringing Real Madrid star Gareth Bale to Manchester United despite the Portuguese boss stating publicly the chase is over.

Spanish publication Diario Gol claim behind closed doors Mourinho is still hopeful of signing the former Tottenham star.

However, the report states Mourinho does not believe he is worth the €100million (£90.4m) Madrid value him at.

And Mourinho has made it clear he will not pay more than 80m (£72m) for his services.

Rose would be hit – Nicol

17.55: Danny Rose would be a success at Manchester United if he joined from Tottenham this summer, according to pundit Steve Nicol.

Rose has been linked with a move to Manchester United, as manager Jose Mourinho looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the upcoming season.

Nicol cannot see Spurs letting their left-back leave, especially after seeing right-back Kyle Walker already go to Manchester City earlier this summer.

“If he was playing at Man United he would be a hit, yes,” Nicol said on ESPN FC.

“They’ve already let Walker go for £50million, they’re not letting Rose go.

“I’m sorry, this is a miss for United.”

Madrid cool De Gea interest

15:55: Manchester United have delayed plans to extend David De Gea’s contract with Real Madrid cooling their interest.

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has now ruled out making a move for him this summer and The Sun claim they will now renew their interest next summer.

The report claims the Frenchman is happy with current No 1 Keylor Navas and does not need to pursue De Gea again this time around.

De Gea still has two years remaining on his current deal and United have the option to extend for a further year.

But Mourinho and United’s hierarchy have decided to wait before trying to extend De Gea’s deal.
Matic regret

14:21: Chelsea captain Gary Cahill suggests his side will regret selling Nemnaja Matic to Manchester United this summer.

“Matic is a fantastic player, a real top player,” Cahill told Sky Sports.

“I had the benefit of realising how good he is when he’s playing just in front of you, on and off the ball.

“He’s going to be a huge loss, there’s no doubt about that. And for us it’s important because it can be very offensive this formation.”

Rose flattered by interest

12:15: Danny Rose is flattered by interest from Manchester United and is considering his future at Tottenham.

The London Evening Standard claim Rose has been assessing his options for some time and is happy to be linked with United.

And even though Rose is content at Spurs under Mauricio Pochettino, he has been considering a change in the future.

Trophies are a key factor for him going forward, and he questions the possibility of glory at Tottenham.

United boss Jose Mourinho is a long-term admirer, Paris Saint-Germain followed Rose during last season and Chelsea are continuing to monitor his situation.

Unless things change dramatically, though, the defender will apparently stay at Spurs this summer.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic returns?

11:55: Zlatan Ibrahimovic has decided he wants to rejoin Man Utd

According to The Guardian, Ibrahimovic has told Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho he wants to play for them again.

The former Barcelona and PSG striker must now prove his fitness after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury in April but there is optimism a short-term deal can be agreed.

De Gea to Real Madrid a definite – McManaman

10:45: Manchester United will “definitely” lose David De Gea to Real Madrid – eventually, Steve McManaman believes.

“Madrid covet him highly don’t they and they want him,” McManaman told BT Sport. “They’ll end up taking him off Man United, whether it’s next year, the year after.

“They will take him in the end, definitely, they will definitely take him.

“In the end if United are not delivering the trophies that de Gea wants, he’ll want to move to Real Madrid.

“He’s a Spanish boy and he’ll end up going that way. I thought he did well, he shone out of the goalkeepers tonight.”
Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial exit?

08.32: Steven Gerrard believes Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial could leave Manchester United if they don’t improve this season.

He said on BT Sport: “I think Jose’s found his spine now with the signings he’s made.

“Manchester United to me look very strong as team down the middle.

“I’m not sure these players we’re talking about in the wide areas, the likes of Lingard and Martial.

“I’m not sure they’ve hit those heights yet to be really described as a Man Utd player.

“I think it’s big season for them. I think if those individuals don’t find consistency over the next 12 months, I don’t think they’ll be at Manchester United very long.”

Bale out

08:00: Gareth Bale insists he is happy at Real Madrid and doesn’t see any reason to leave.

After helping Real beat Manchester United 2-1 to win the UEFA Super Cup in Macedonia last night, Bale was asked whether he was flattered by Jose Mourinho’s pre-match comments admitting he wanted to sign him.

But Bale rebuffed the approach, replying: “What do you want me to say? I’m concentrating on my football, I’m concentrating on getting my fitness up, I’m happy.

“I’m playing football, I’m winning trophies, so yeah, I don’t want to move. There’s not really much more I can say.

“The club hasn’t said anything (about being sold). “We’ve spoke, they’re happy with everything and, yeah, for me, I just want to concentrate now on getting fit, on getting ready for the new season and playing as well as I can.

“There’s been no need for any talks. Everything has gone as normal, like it has every year, there’s been the normal speculation, like there is every year but, yeah, I think obviously it’s a little bit more hyped up because we’re we’re playing United.”

Darmian glad to be staying at United

06:00: Matteo Darmian was linked with a move away from Manchester United at the start of the summer.

But the Italy international is happy to be staying put.

“I’m pleased that Manchester United consider me to be off the market, just as I’m pleased by the interest of Italian clubs,” he said.

“In any case, there was never anything concrete, so there’s no point talking about the transfer market.

“I see myself at Manchester United, I’m happy here.”
Gerrard thinks Mourinho is turning United into Chelsea

05:40: Steven Gerrard thinks Manchester United’s decision to buy Nemanja Matic means Jose Mourinho is trying to turn them into Chelsea.

“He’s a huge signing,” Gerrard said on BT Sport of Matic.

“You can see signs of what Jose’s trying to do here at Manchester United in what he did at Chelsea when he built a big, powerful, strong team that’s capable of winning the big trophies.

“I noticed with Pogba his form went better when he was with (Michael) Carrick, players who give him the ball earlier, higher up the pitch where he can really add to his numbers in terms of assists and goals.

“I’m sure this lad (Matic) will help him even more.”

United signing Lindelof questioned

05:00: Alan Pardew has questioned Manchester United new boy Victor Lindelof after a shaky debut against Real Madrid last night.

“They’ve had injuries in that area,” Pardew told Sky Sports. “Smalling never seems to play a full season.

“Jones is always injured so there is going to be huge pressure on Lindelof.

“At the moment I think he’s finding it a struggle.

“Benfica in the Portuguese league is not the same level as the Premier League week in week out and the intensity put on centre-backs is very difficult.

“I remember Sir Alex Ferguson saying to me at United because you’re Man United your two centre-backs have to deal two-on-two and one-on-one because you’re going to commit all your players forward to try and win the game.

“His one-on-one play worries me for Man United because I fancy if my man was fit [pointing at Ian Wright] he would have a good chance.”
Reports in Spain say Bale is for sale

04:40: But, though Jose Mourinho has dismissed a move for Bale, not everyone is convinced.

Spanish outlet Diario Gol has sensationally said that Mourinho was told by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez that Bale IS for sale.

It is said the pair had a secret chat where Perez confessed he wanted the Wales international off the books as he knows he wants to be a main man somewhere else.

But, he was also told that a transfer can only happen if the Red Devils fork out a huge £180million.

Mourinho swears Bale pursuit is over

04:20: So, last night Jose Mourinho ruled out a move to Manchester United for Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale.

“I think so,” he said when quizzed if his pursuit of Bale was over.

“The club [Real Madrid] wants him, the manager wants him, and, more importantly, he wants the club.

“For me, it is game over. I think now everybody knows he is going to stay.”
