Illegal miners in the Gbani community of the upper East region have reportedly clashed with workers of a Chinese mining firm called Shaanxi Mining Limited.
The illegal miners reportedly attacked three workers of the mining firm inflicting severe cutlass wounds on them, Starr News has gathered.
The incident is happening months after government ordered the Chinese mining firm to suspend operations there indefinitely.
This was to pave way for investigations into the killing of some local miners in the area blamed on the Chinese expatriates residing and working in the area.
Speaking to Starr News, the company’s Human Resource Manager Joseph Anokye described the situation as dire.
“Our men were guarding there but they broke into it and attacked them taking four of our security details as hostage with guns and cutlasses,” he bemoaned.
“These people can kill,” he told Starr News’ Upper East regional Correspondent Edward Adeti, adding, “they need money and anything that will stop them from getting their money, they don’t care they will kill.”
