President Akufo-Addo will today cut sod for the construction of the first factory under his government’s one -district one-factory project.
It will be a fulfillment of his pledge to promote industrialization and enable each local government area to own factories relative to its resources and capacity to provide jobs.
About 5000 persons are expected to be employed by the Ekumfi Fruit Processing factory following its completion.
A Member of the planning committee, Kingsley Karikari, told Starr News’ Central regional correspondent Kwaku Baah-Acheamfour that the factory will provide ready market for pineapple farmers within and outside Ekumfi, which is more “lucrative than galamsey”.
“Currently the local market price for pineapple here in Mankessim is GHC1 which means the farmer or the out grower is getting about GHC12, 000 per acre that is more lucrative than galamsey. The factory will directly employ than the out-grower program that seeks to harness the energy of the youth in farming and get them interested in farming so that they can make money for themselves and their families,” he said.
