Man Utd News: Jose Mourinho discusses form of Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Jose Mourinho has lauded Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan for their fine starts to the season.
Manchester United boss Mourinho was accused of treating both players harshly last season.

But the duo look better off this time out, scoring twice and registering five assists between them from their opening two Premier League games.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been the star, providing four of those assists and finally resembling the player that took the Bundesliga by storm with Borussia Dortmund.

And Mourinho claims the Armenia international’s resurgence is down to a better understanding between both himself and the player.

“I think Henrikh understands me, and to be honest, I understand him because in the beginning of the season if he understands me better, he would have started better,” he said.
“But at the same time, if I understand him better, I would probably help him in a faster way than I did.

“But, we spent our time together, working together, learning each other. The second part of last season was good for him and I believe with his talent that this season is going to be even better.”

Martial blossomed after arriving from Monaco in 2015, but his form waned last year with the France international managing just eight goals across all competitions.

However, he has already reached a quarter of that tally despite starting wins over West Ham and Swansea on the bench.

And Jose Mourinho thinks he will be better this season than last.
“I think when you have some talent, you cannot waste it.

“I think when you’re blessed with some talent, you have to fulfil that talent, you have to explore that talent, you cannot be happy just with glimpses of talent.

“I want more from him because he has all the qualities for that. But I think he understands me better too and the personal relation [between us] is good, so again Anthony, I hope he’s going to better this season than last season.”
