LIVERPOOL did NOT demand £185million for Philippe Coutinho on deadline day.
Barcelona today claimed Liverpool had made the huge demand in the hope the Nou Camp giants would bite and sign Coutinho at the end of the transfer window.
“After weeks of offers and talks, Liverpool put a price on the player that we wanted [Coutinho],” Barca director Albert Soler said.
“A price of €200m (£183m) and we decided we wouldn’t do it.”
But Liverpool have reportedly hit back at those claims by insisting they never made such a demand.
According to Sky Sports, Liverpool are adamant they never considered selling Coutinho
The official line from the club all summer was that the Brazilian was not for sale at any price.
Coutinho handed in a transfer request and effectively went on strike in the hope of securing a move.
It never came off as Spain’s transfer window closed last night without incident.
Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group were consistent with their refusal to sell the player.
And Barcelona are said to have known this stance throughout their talks with the Anfield bosses.
