Arsenal transfer shock: Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho highly confident of signing Mesut Ozil

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly ‘highly confident’ about convincing Mesut Ozil to move to Old Trafford.
Ozil has entered the final 12 months of his Arsenal contract and has so far failed to reach an agreement over a new deal.

The German has regularly spoken about his love for Arsenal and life in London but it appears increasingly unlikely that he will commit his future to the Emirates.

During pre-season, the 28-year-old claimed his preference would be to ‘definitely’ stay at Arsenal and said talks would take place.

“It is such a great club and I have always said that I feel very good at Arsenal,” Ozil said.
“Once everyone is back in London, we will sit down and discuss the future.

“For now, the most important thing is our pre-season and getting through the tour, training and getting fitness.

“When I’m back in London, we will sit down and discuss.”
But the Independent say negotiations have reached an ‘impasse’, and that Mourinho believes he can bring Ozil to the club due to their relationship at Real Madrid.

As Madrid boss, Mourinho bought Ozil to the Bernabeu in 2010 and the pair enjoyed a successful partnership.

The report says the pair have remained on ‘good terms’ since going their separate ways leading to confidence that a deal can be struck.
The relationship between Mourinho and Wenger has appeared to soften in recent months.
But if Ozil was to leave Arsenal and join Mourinho at United, it would represent a huge blow to Wenger.

The Frenchman was heavily criticised in 2012 when Robin van Persie was sold to United and he went on to win the Premier League title in his first season.
