ARSENAL midfielder Mesut Ozil must not join Manchester United, according to former Germany striker Karl-Heinz Riedle.
Mesut Ozil is out of contract with Arsenal in the summer and is yet to agree new terms with the north London club.
The 28-year-old has been linked with a move to Manchester United to reunite with former Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho.
However, former Germany striker Karl-Heinz Riedle thinks it would be a big mistake for him to join the Red Devils.
And he hopes the former Schalke and Werder Bremen man opts for a return to the Bundesliga instead.
“Ozil going back to Germany? Who knows,” Riedle told broadcaster Omnisport.
“There’s a rumour that he goes to Manchester United. He shouldn’t do it.
“Ozil is a quality player. If you see his skills, it’s just amazing what he can do on the pitch.
“We would be very happy if he comes back to a club in Germany, for sure.”
However, Riedle is not holding out much hope of Ozil returning to Germany as the Bundesliga clubs cannot compete financially with their Premier League rivals.
“I’m not his agent so I don’t know where he ends up,” he added.
“Best option, from my point, is if he would come to the Bundesliga.
“It’s a really good option because we get another national player back in our league.
“But if he is looking only for the money, then it would be very difficult to find the same kind of money in the German league than he can find in the Premier League.”
