Old Vandals Courtesy Call – Commissioner of the National Insurance Commission (NIC)

The Old Vandals Association (OVA) Greater Accra Executives, National OVA Executives and Commonwealth Hall Management delegation on 11 October 2017 paid a courtesy call on Mr. Justice Yaw Ofori, the Commissioner of the National Insurance Commission (NIC), a member in “Good Standing” of the Greater Accra OVA branch. The Delegation Present were; Prof. Frank Nyame, Hall Master, Mr. T. Odjeawo President of Commonwealth Hall Fellows, Mr. Samuel Adu Boafo, President OVA Greater Accra, Mr. Joachim Quanson and Mr. Darko Akuamoah, National OVA Organiser and Deputy Secretary, Mr. Kofi Asamoah and Hanson Emmanuel, Secretary and Deputy Secretary OVA Greater Accra respectively and Mr. Bawa Rhaman.

President of the Greater Accra Branch, Mr. Samuel Adu Boafo on behalf of the delegation congratulated the Commissioner for his new position, as he expressed his joy for making Vandals Globally proud and urged him to continuously demonstrate his commitment to his duty. The Commissioner, Mr. Justice Yaw Ofori was pleased with the love expressed by the Old Vandals as he mentioned that he will continuously support the course of the Association and the Hall.




Mr. Justice Yaw Ofori recounted his days in the walls of Commonwealth Hall, and made an appeal to the Hall Master to also help safeguard the culture “Vandalism”. He further expressed that the current Vandals needed reorientation on the core values of Vandalism which has been misconstrued by many as violence.

The Hall Master, Prof. Frank Nyame, Presented the “Vandal Hope Pennant” as a sign of his continuous effort in exhibiting the acronym of “VANDAL”, which is; Vivacious, Affable, Neighbourly, Dedication, Altruistic, Loyal in his area of expertise (Insurance).

Secretary of the Greater Accra OVA, Mr. Kofi Asamoah, thanked the Commissioner for the honouring the courtesy call and mentioned that the Old Vandals will always support him.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of the National Insurance Commission (NIC), Mr. Justice Yaw Ofori was appointed by the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo earlier part of 2017.Before his appointment, he was the Director of the Ghana Insurance College.He is a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of Ghana and the Chartered Insurance Professional Insurance Institute of Canada.  Mr. Justice Yaw Ofori International Executive MBA and a B.A. Honours from the University of Ghana (Political Science Major).

The NIC was established by the Insurance Act, 2006 (Act 724), which replaced Insurance Law, 1989 (P.N.D.C.L. 227). Its object is to ensure effective administration, supervision, regulation, monitoring and control of the business of insurance, to protect insurance policyholders and the insurance industry.
