Next Cristiano Ronaldo: Man Utd scouting Benfica starlet Umaro Embalo – report

MANCHESTER UNITED are interested in 16-year-old Benfica striker Umaro Embalo, according to reports.
United had chief scout Javier Ribalta and head of development John Murtagh in the stands to watch their UEFA Youth League tie with Benfica under-19s.

And the Press Association have revealed they were there to watch Embalo in the 2-2 draw with Nicky Butt’s side.

The young forward, who can play up front or as a winger, has been modelled as the ‘next Cristiano Ronaldo’ and came on as a second-half substitute.

In a eventful match that saw midfielder Indy Boonen sent off and Butt sent to the stands, United came back from 2-0 down to gain a credible draw.

The Red Devils may have to act fast, as the Press Association report that they are not the only European heavyweight interested in the Portuguese starlet’s abilities.
As well as Embalo, club scouts were monitoring 17-year-old Joao Felix, whilst 18-year-old Joao Filipe had been on trial at Carrington in the past.

Filipe was tied down to a new deal in August, but has said in the past he would welcome a move to Old Trafford.

In the senior competition, Marcus Rashford earned United a 1-0 win against Benfica after a goalkeeping error from Mile Svilar.
