Conor McGregor reveals real reason he fought Floyd Mayweather: Hits back at money claims

CONOR MCGREGOR insists financial gain was not the reason he decided to fight Floyd Mayweather in August.
McGregor took on Mayweather in a fight named ‘The Money Fight’ at the end of August.

The UFC star went into the contest with no boxing experience, with many believing he had chosen to fight Mayweather solely for the money involved.

The 29-year-old did, however, fare better over the first four rounds before Mayweather finally downed him in the tenth.

And, speaking two months on from the defeat, Conor McGregor has insisted that money was NOT a motivator and he took on the 40-year-old because he genuinely thought he could reign supreme.
“I know I said it’s always the best thing cashing the cheque, but I’m only joking, I don’t actually give a b*****ks about the money,” McGregor said at a Q&A session in Glasgow last month.

“I know it’s easy for me to say that because I’m in the position I’m at.

“I don’t give a b*****ks about the money. I came to win that fight. I believed I could win that fight, my whole team believed.

“We put serious (work in) They weren’t spars, they were fights. Every day I was fighting, I was fighting someone new.”
McGregor also admitted that defeat in Las Vegas was a bitter pill to swallow
“So to put in so much work and to see the way it went and to see how easy them earlier rounds were and then to see the way it ended, it’s a hard one (to take),” he continued.

“And then to see him, he’s gone into retirement, it’s a hard one to take.

“But, I’ve just got to take it and carry on and figure it out.”
