The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is being treated with its own medicine following the ‘leakage’ of portions of the 455-page document to unravel the cause of its electoral defeat in 2016.
Sammy Awuku, National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the weekend on Newsfile said what has been put out cannot be described as fake because it conforms with the reality that characterized activities embarked on prior to the polls.
According to him, the NDC after the 2008 elections chose to adopt the Dr Kobina Arthur Kennedy’s chasing the elephant into the bush and referred to it in criticizing the NPP at the least opportunity.
“Even though, the party constituted the Hayman committee to unearth what caused the defeat of the party and a report was submitted, the NDC relied on a book written by an individual against a document that specifically focused on the party”.
“They went to town with Dr Kobina Arthur Kennedy’s chasing the elephant into the bush and even quoted portions on this platform to back their accusations. Now it is their time to also swallow the bitter pill and they are complaining it is not true. I was on Legon campus making arrangements for buses to transport people to the regions to vote and while I was looking at luxury buses they were bringing rickety Benz buses. The people they were organizing the buses for abandoned theirs and joined ours. Do you need the Kwes Botchwey report to state that this was a challenge”, he asked on Newsfile.
Mr Awuku disclosed that the outcry of some party officials who were denied logistics in some regions including Ashanti and Central regions as contained in portions of the executive summary, gives credence to the fact that what has been put out is not fake.
“I feel sorry the report has leaked. They are dazed by the leakage. The self denial will worsen their plight because they cannot implement the recommendation of the report. You don’t need the Kwesi Botcwey report to know the party suffered logistical constraints in the Ashanti Region”, he stressed.
