PAUL SCHOLES is convinced Romelu Lukaku will get back on the goalscoring trail for Manchester United once Paul Pogba returns.
Pogba has been out of action for seven weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury in the Champions League win over Basel in September.
Lukaku has seen his form dip in recent weeks and he is without a goal in any of his past five outings for United in all competitions.
And Scholes thinks things will be different for the Belgian striker once Pogba is back on the pitch for United.
“I think if Pogba comes back he’ll make a difference to the way they play,” Scholes told BT Sport.
“He links the team together and I don’t think they have a good enough No 10 at the moment and that doesn’t help Lukaku either.
“Pogba will make a difference and be more positive.
“Lukaku is having to do a lot for himself but Pogba will make the difference.
“They are missing a player to knit the team together.”
Scholes thinks Henrikh Mkhitaryan has also contributed to Lukaku’s quiet spell in front of goal, adding: “I think the criticism came from the Liverpool game where his hold-up play wasn’t great.
“I don’t think Mkhitaryan helped him and he hasn’t had much support since then.”
United, who beat Benfica 2-0 in the Champions League last night, face Chelsea next at Stamford Bridge on Sunday (4.30pm).
