MANCHESTER UNITED boss Jose Mourinho is on Real Madrid’s list of replacements for Zinedine Zidane, according to reports.
Zidane’s Real Madrid future has been plunged into uncertainty after recent setbacks in the league and in Europe.
Los Blancos were thumped 3-1 by Tottenham last night, meaning they now look set to finish second in Group H.
Real Madrid have a reputation for axing managers at the first opportunity, with Zidane their 14th boss since the turn of the century.
And Spanish website Don Balon claims Mourinho is on the La Liga giants’ list of potential Zidane replacements.
The 54-year-old has got Manchester United fully firing for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure.
The Red Devils have won seven of their first 10 Premier League games and also boast a 100 per cent Champions League record.
However, Mourinho continues to be linked with a move away after admitting he would not be ending his career at Old Trafford.
He has also made a habit of staying three years maximum at any club.
And Madrid are ready to pounce if given any encouragement.
Mourinho won Los Blancos the La Liga title in 2012 but was axed the following year after falling out with heavyweights such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos.
Don Balon add that the United boss is not the only person in the frame to take over
Joachim Lowe and Mauricio Pochettino are also interesting Real president Florentino Perez.
And Germany manager Lowe is supposedly his No1 choice.
Pochettino, meanwhile, is unlikely to leave Tottenham anytime soon.
