I’ve not forgiven Major Mahama’ ‘killers’ – Wife

Barbara Mahama, wife of Major Maxwell Mahama who was gruesomely murdered by residents of Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region has revealed she’s yet to forgive her husband’s murderers.

When asked by Nana Aba Anamoah in an interview on GH One TV if she’d forgiven those who killed her husband, she responded “forgiven?…I haven’t thought about it.”

“… anger is part of the healing process…it is natural to be angry about a lot of things including those who did it (killed), so once in a while I get angry.

Following detailed police investigations, 22 accused persons, including the assembly member for Denkyira Obuasi, William Baah, and one female, Vivian Asahene, have been charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder over the killing of Major Mahama.

Major Mahama was the Commander of a military detachment stationed at Diaso in the Upper Denkyira West District in the Central Region to check illegal mining activities.

But on May 29, 2017, while on jogging wearing civilian clothes he was lynched by residents on suspicion he was an armed robber after they spotted a pistol tucked by his waist.

On September 7, 2017, several people who had thronged the Accra Central Magistrate Court to witness the trial of the suspects were stunned when they saw the suspects appearing in court each holding Bibles.

They all sang praises as they arrived at the court premises and while disembarking the vehicle that conveyed them, an indication that they might have repented from their sins and turned on a new leaf they also prayed in the van before they alighted.

“There was drama in court today as we witnessed a rare spectacle. All the suspects bowed their head and prayed as soon as they sat down in the court room. People who had gathered in court were very surprised at the conduct of the suspects as this behaviour has not been seen since hearing began,” Kasapa FM’s Court Correspondent, Daakyehene said.
