Gomez eager to cement England role

09:45: Joe Gomez is determined to impose himself and show his quality after receiving a surprise England call-up.

Daniel Sturridge, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Chris Smalling are among those to have fallen by the wayside, with fresh faces like Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Tammy Abraham and Gomez favoured instead.

The latter was recently appointed England Under-21s captain by Aidy Boothroyd, whose kind words complemented promising displays for Liverpool and helped bring a maiden senior call-up for the defender.

“It has obviously been a dream of mine since I was kid to represent my country at senior level,” Gomez said.

“It was a surprise. I wasn’t expecting the call-up, but it was great news for me and my family and all those close to me. It’s a dream come true, really.

“I just have to be confident with myself. I think it’s a balance of knowing my ability but also trying to learn. I have to look ahead towards the future and I still understand that I am a young player and I’ve got a lot to learn.

“I am looking to do that and still try to get games but at the same time impose myself and show my quality.”

Van Dijk comments on future

08.30: Virgil van Dijk has said ‘we will see what happens’ regarding his future.

Van Dijk looked set for Liverpool this summer but the move was blocked.

He handed in a transfer request and Liverpool were ready to pay around £70m to get him but he remains on the south coast.

And he was coy when asked about his future.

“Firstly, I don’t think it’s appropriate to comment on anything that happened before,” he said to the Daily Echo.

“But I am giving 100% for the club. I work hard every day, I help my team-mates, I’m positive and I want to win every game.

“I am happy and that’s the most important thing so we will just see what happens.”
Atletico want Salah

08.15: Atletico Madrid are set to make a bold move for Liverpool ace Mohamad Salah.

Salah’s performances have been catching the eye of the Spanish club.

According to El Gol Digital, Diego Simeone is keen to add more fire power in the next transfer window despite the impending arrivals of Diego Costa and Vitolo.

And the club are prepared to pay close to £50m to entice Liverpool into selling their prized asset.

Atletico are reportedly preparing for the possible departure of Yannick Carrasco who has missed the club’s last five matches due to a knee injury.

And they would be willing to consider a player-swap deal for Salah but Jurgen Klopp almost certainly bat away any interest.
Navas latest

08.00: Arsenal are ready to battle it out with Liverpool to sign Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas in January, reports claim.
Navas, who has made six La Liga starts this term, is currently out of action as he has a torn abductor muscle.

Recent reports suggested Liverpool were lining up an audacious swoop.

With Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius struggling to convince Jurgen Klopp of their abilities, the German tactician is keen to strengthen between the sticks.

Diario Gol claimed Navas has become increasingly frustrated with his situation at Real, and he doesn’t think he has the trust of the club’s president Florentino Perez.

And now El Gol Digital report Arsenal are exploring the option of signing the Costa Rica international.
