NDC paid ‘unity walkers’ GHS50+ – C/R Minister

Central Regional Minister Kwamena Duncan has said members of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) were paid between GHS50 and GHS100 to take part in the party’s third unity walk held on Sunday, 5 November in his region.

Mr Duncan said the NDC is deceiving its members across the country that the party is united for future elections whereas in reality, there are deep cracks within its fold.

Mr Duncan made the revelation in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson on Accra100.5FM’s Ghana Yensom morning show on Monday, 6 November.

He said the organisers forked out “GHS50 and GHS100” to party supporters to entice them to participate in the walk so as to create a false impression of high interest and togetherness.

“Monies were placed in their hands, GHS50 and GHS100 were paid to the supporters to participate, the executives also had their share of the money,” Mr Duncan alleged.

“I am a Regional Minister and I have informants all around, I have my eyes all over the place, I have people even within the NDC who give me information from the party, and, so, I know what I am talking about.

“They bussed people from all over the region to participate in the walk,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mr Sampson Ahianyo, one of the organisers of the walk has dismissed that claim, saying, the “participants were not paid a dime to take part in the walk.”

“Kwamena Duncan is a Regional Minister, and, so, he should not be doing propaganda. It is never true we paid money to the people.”

The NDC, as part of its strategies to forge unity ahead of the 2020 elections, is organising unity walks in all the 10 regions. The Cape Coast walk was the third.

Several stalwarts of the NDC including former president John Dramani Mahama and former Vice Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Joshua Alabi took part in the exercise.
