Man Utd news: Why Manchester United are still Man City’s main title rivals – Ryan Giggs

MANCHESTER UNITED are Manchester City’s main rivals for the Premier League title.

That’s the verdict of Old Trafford legend Ryan Giggs, who’s suggested Jose Mourinho, Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic hold the key to the Red Devils’ chances of glory this season.

United are looking to build on the Europa League and EFL Cup success they enjoyed under Mourinho last season as they go in search of their first title since 2013.

They’re currently eight points adrift of Premier League leaders City though and that could be increased if they fail to beat Newcastle United this Saturday (5.30pm).

Giggs, who won 13 titles with United, still thinks his old side have what it takes to contend with City though.

“I still see Manchester United as the main title rivals for City this season, with Jose Mourinho’s record being key, while he should have Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to come back when you really need those big-game players to make an impact,” Giggs told Sky Sports.

Giggs reckons Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham could pose a threat to City too.

“Tottenham have also been impressive and I had thought they would struggle going for the title with the Wembley and playing in the Champions League but they’ve gotten over it really well, so I’d have them third in the mix,” he added.

United and City are set to renew their rivalry at Old Trafford on Sunday December 10.

Mourinho’s men have fixtures against Newcastle, Basel, Brighton, Watford, Arsenal and CSKA Moscow before that clash.
