Mahama Will Contest NDC Flagbearer Race – Staff

A staff at the office of former President John Mahama has revealed that his boss intends filing to contest the 2020 flagbearership race of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) when nominations open.

Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, who is also a former MCE for Obuasi, said those who work with the former president are aware of his intentions and are willing to support him when the time comes.

His comments are coming days after a group of NDC regional chairmen also demanded that the former president considers standing as flagbearer of the NDC. The seeming controversial announcement generated a lot of public discussions.

“…I am a worker for the former president and I can say on authority that if the party opens nominations he is going to contest,” the former Obuasi MCE told Starr News.

Touching on the call on the former president to consider running for the flagbearership slot of the party ahead of the 2020 elections by the ten regional chairpersons, Mr. Agyeman-Boadi said their call was quite early.

“Once the party has not opened the nominations for people with interest to contest I think we should allow the playing field to be even,” he urged,  “and when we are done with the elections getting people to come around will not be difficult.”

Mr. Agyeman Boadi also disclosed that the camp of the former president has taken a cue from the ruling NPP’s campaign strategies and is adopting a renewed way of repackaging and selling the messages in the John Dramani Mahama campaign manifesto ahead of the elections.
