Armed robbers shoot two watchdog committee members at Elmina

Suspected armed robbers have shot and injured two volunteer watchdog committee members at Elmina Zongo in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem (KEEA) District of the Central Region.

The victims who suffered severe gunshot wounds were rushed to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital where they are said to be receiving treatment.

Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Nana Appiah Korang who confirmed the incident to mynewsgh.com, gave the names of the victims as Mohammed Mustapha and Sulaiman Mohammed

Nana Appiah Korang expressed his condolence to the two volunteer watchdog committee members shot by the armed robbers.




According to him, the two were part of a team who were trying to stop an armed robbery that was taking place at Elmina Zongo but they were shot after they stopped the suspected armed robbers who were riding an unregistered motorbike heading towards Ankaful at dawn.

He disclosed that the team stopped the robbers to find out why they were riding an unregistered motorbike at that time but the pillion rider suddenly removed a gun and shot the victims.

One of the victims was shot in hand and he fell unconscious, the other was also shot in the thigh but managed to escape from further danger.

The Municipal Chief Executive on behalf of the assembly visited the victims with provisions and an undisclosed amount to extend his sympathies over the tragic attack.

He wished the injured victims a speedy recovery and prayed for God’s blessings on the entire 18-member volunteer watchdog committee urging them to remain resolute in these trying times.

The Assemblyman of the Elmina Zongo, Ishawu Yayaha thanked the MCE for his kind gesture.

He appealed to the MCE to do everything within his powers to deploy policemen to Elmina Zongo as it is noted for criminal activities.
