JOSE MOURINHO reportedly hopes that dropping Henrikh Mkhitaryan will revitalise his Manchester United career.
Mkhitaryan has been left out of back-to-back match day squads – the 4-1 win over Newcastle at Old Trafford last Saturday and subsequently the 1-0 Champions League defeat away to Basel in midweek.
Following a loss of form, the Armenian has failed to convince Mourinho that he deserves a regular starting spot.
And according to the Daily Mirror, Mourinho hopes that dropping the 28-year-old will inspire him to get back to his best.
Mkhitaryan has experienced the hard side of Mourinho before.
When he joined United from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2016, he took time to find his feet.
He was left out of the starting line-up for a few months, with Mourinho unconvinced about the player’s fitness.

When quizzed about why Mkhitaryan was left out of United’s game against Newcastle, he said: “It’s frustrating for me that there is always a question about a player not playing or not in the best of form.
“Always questions about somebody in a certain match who didn’t play.
“Until the international board change the rules I can only play 11.”
