Man Utd news: Anthony Martial opens up on Jose Mourinho in brutally honest interview

MANCHESTER UNITED star Anthony Martial has opened up about struggling last season – but has vowed to help fire the Red Devils to silverware galore.
Martial scored just eight times for Manchester United last season with the France international struggling under Jose Mourinho.

It was a far cry from an excellent debut season in English football where he scored 17 goals under old boss Louis van Gaal.

Despite his past problems with Mourinho, however, Martial has rediscovered his best form and has seven goals for the campaign already.

And the 21-year-old has now opened up about a nightmare last season but has vowed to become the player many expect him to be.

“I had some problems off the pitch [last season] that played in my head. I wasn’t really focused,” the Manchester United told teleFoot.
“But now when I go out onto the pitch, I want to tear it up.

“Some people forget my age. Given my talent, they expected me to explode earlier. But everyone has their own pace.

“With my club I want to win as many trophies as possible, and with the national team I hope to establish myself in the first team and win the World Cup.”

Mourinho recently expressed his belief that Martial was ready to take his game to the next level.
“We started again from scratch,” the 54-year-old said.

“I think we’re now at the stage where I really think he can be a great, great player.

“After a difficult period, the definitive explosion will come.”

Martial could feature when United go up against Marco Silva’s in-form Watford tomorrow (8pm).
