I have not been fired – Ohemaa Woyeje

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Adom FM’s award winning mid-morning show host, Ohemaa Woyeje, will be behind the console today doing what she loves best.

Blog sites all over the country have been busy, reporting that Ohemaa Woyeje has been fired by the Multimedia Group over statements she allegedly made about the death of Kwadwo Asare Baffour Acheampong (KABA) but the bubbly presenter says she still has her job.

“I have not been sacked. I am still with the Multimedia Group, I am still at Adom FM. Hopefully, I will be at work tomorrow if nothing goes wrong,” she told Showbiz in an interview on Sunday.

So how did this whole controversy come about? Ohemaa lays the blame at the doors of bloggers who she says twisted her words.

Last Wednesday, Ohemaa posted on Facebook with regards to KABA’s death. She wrote: “Our hypocrisy is just not cool! I remember when some weeks ago, #KABA told me about one woman from Multi TV who frustrated him a lot especially when he was on TV till other matters…I saw this same woman on Monday with her legs n waist like mine looking all mourning going up and down just to appear in the cameras and pretending to have lost a loved colleague. Why didn’t she sleep and pop champagne to celebrate news on his demise?”

The post went viral and according to Ohemaa, she received a call from her bosses soon after. “My bosses called me and said the bloggers were twisting my statement to indicate. I was suspicious about who killed KABA. They then asked me to pull the post down which I did.

“Then the next day, which was Thursday, I woke up in the morning to find an email from the Head of Human Resource asking me to come in and explain my post and give names of the people I suspected to have a hand in KABA’s death,” she said.

According to Ohemaa Woyeje, the time for the meeting was around the same time she was supposed to go on air so she obviously missed her Work And Happiness mid-morning show.

At the meeting “I told them I had no names because I had not made such allegations and it was the bloggers who had made their own assumptions. I explained that I was talking about someone being hypocritical. KABA and I had spoken about her before and she clearly didn’t like him so her tears pissed me off,” Ohemaa said.

“further, they wanted me to guide them on whether there were any issues happening underground that they did not know about so they can address them,” she added.

What made the bloggers believe she had been fired was a post she made again on Facebook where she said, “Better to lose your job than lose your life” and they went to town with it again. But Ohemaa explains that she posted that before her meeting with her bosses.

She said some of her colleagues had alerted her before she was called that her bosses were angry at her comments so she was ready for anything which is why she put up that post.

After her inability to host her show on Friday, she began reading about her sacking on the various blogs. “So many people have been calling me, even colleagues at work who seem to believe that the reports were true. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to pick their calls. In fact, this is the first time I am speaking about it since those reports.”

She said she was not given any warning but was rather advised to channel any issues with the company to the HR department. “I still have my job. Nobody has told me officially that I have been suspended or fired. Until my bosses tell me not to go on air, I am still at Adom FM,” she said.
