Real Madrid news: Barcelona star Lionel Messi forces Cristiano Ronaldo into big decision

BARCELONA star Lionel Messi’s new contract has made Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo angry, according to reports.
Messi signed a new Barcelona contract at the weekend that will see him pocket a salary worth £500,000 per week.

That decision has ended months of uncertainty over his future with the 30-year-old previously being tipped to join Manchester City.

However, Spanish website Diario Gol claim Messi’s new contract has not sat well with Ronaldo over at Real Madrid.

It is an open secret that the 32-year-old’s rivalry with Messi continues to excel even if his performances on the pitch this season have left much to be desired.

Ronaldo is expected to be crowned Ballon d’Or winner next month for the fifth time in his career.
But, despite that, the Portugal international still does not earn a salary in keeping with his lofty reputation.

Messi’s new contract means Ronaldo currently earns less than the Barcelona star and his former team-mate Neymar.

Neymar earns a huge £540,000 a week at PSG, who also splashed out £200million to sign him from Barcelona in the summer.

And Diario Gol say Ronaldo is now aware of how financially lacking he is compared to his fiercest rivals.

The former Manchester United man has consequently asked Jorge Mendes to negotiate himself a new bumper contract.
However, Real may opt against handing their star man a contract extension.

Ronaldo has scored just twice in La Liga all season – meaning he faces a huge fight to win the Pichichi award.

And he is also running out of potential suitors.

Manchester United and PSG both opted against pursuing Ronaldo when he wanted to quit the Bernabeu back in the summer.

United opted to place their faith in younger talent instead, signing Romelu Lukaku from Everton and giving greater responsibility to the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

PSG, meanwhile, spent big on Neymar and also focused their efforts on bringing in Kylian Mbappe from Monaco.
