Majority Leader enstooled Chief

The chiefs and people of Suame have enstooled Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu as ‘Sompahene’ for his contributions to the development of the area over the past 20 years.

The wife of the Suame Member of Parliament (MP), Mrs Irene Kyei Mensah Bonsu, was also enstooled as ‘Sompahemaa.’

The historic ceremony, held at Breman on Sunday, was graced by President Nana Akufo-Addo, Speaker of Parliament, Prof Mike Oquaye, Second Lady, Samira Bawumia and Education Minister, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh aka ‘Napo.’

Members of Parliament (MP) from the various political parties, including the Minority Leader Haruna Oddrisu and Alban Bagbin, as well as the Kumasi Mayor, Osei Assibey Antwi, were all present at the colourful ceremony.

The crowd cheered when Kyei Mensah Bonsu and his wife, who were dressed in rich ‘Kente’ cloth, were placed on separate stools to signify their enstoolment as Sompahene and Sompahemaa respectively.

President Akufo-Addo, in his address, praised Hon Kyei Mensah Bonsu for his leadership style which has helped to transform Suame and Ghana, stressing that the majority leader truly deserves to be enstooled as Suame Sompahene.




Samira Bawumia, who represented the Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, also showered praises on the Majority Leader, saying that the people of Suame have done well by honouring him for his good works.

Alban Bagbin, on his part, recounted the crucial roles that Kyei Mensah Bonsu played in the transformational process of the country, stating that he is very happy that the hardworking politician and lawmaker had been honoured by his people.

The newly enstooled Suame Sompahene and his wife wholeheartedly thanked the chiefs and people of Suame for recognizing his good works and also honouring him.

Hon Kyei Mensah Bonsu gave assurance that he would continually play leading roles to help expedite the development of Suame Constituency and Ghana at large, calling for support from all and sundry.
