LIONEL MESSI wants to finish his career at Barcelona, according to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.
Spanish newspaper Marca claim Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour offered Messi a signing on fee of £80million to go to the Etihad.
Guardiola worked with him at Barca and the pair have remained close.
But he insists a move to City “was never going to happen” because Messi’s dream is to play only for Barca,
The Argentine superstar penned a new deal last week worth £50million a season.
Guardiola said: “That’s not true. Lionel Messi signed a new contract a week ago.
“It was never going to happen (City signing him). He wants to finish his career with Barcelona.
“If he wanted to leave then he wouldn’t have signed that new contract.”
City meet Shakhtar Donetsk in Kharkiv tomorrow night in their final group game of the Champions League.
Guardiola’s men have already won the group but can become just the seventh club in The competition’s history to win all six group games.
Guardiola is expected to make a host of changes and will hand a rare start to Yaya Toure.
Toure added: “I think we are playing the best football in Europe right now.
“We have a lot of confidence in the group and we are hoping this can be our most successful season ever.”
