Russia 2018: FIFA Gives Jan 31 Deadline To Decide Bases

FIFA has given all the 32 teams taking part in the 2018 World Cup in Russia January 31, 2018 deadline to decide their bases.

The Local Organising Committee General Secretary, Alexey Sorokin, said this on Tuesday, noting that that all the 32 participating teams, including Nigeria, must decide on their World Cup bases by January 31.

Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr said after the World Cup draw that the team has chosen Southern Russia, between Sochi and Volgograd, in the countryside for the tournament. But that decision can be changed before the deadline of January 31.

“Virtually all the teams have decided their bases. But we can not say who and where they will be,” Sorokin told championat.com.

“They can change their decision before January 31. The Moscow region and the south of Russia are in special demand, as well as several bases in the Leningrad region.

“In all, 70 bases were offered for selection, but we knew that there will be only 32 teams. We will have to upset some regions, but these are the realities of the World Cup.

“In addition, we did not have to build anything: we specifically chose bases where there are five or four-star hotels.”

Explaining why Nigeria chose Southern Russia, Rohr told football365.fr: ”We will be far from everything, with opportunities for care and excellent conditions of recovery between games. At 500 meters altitude, it will not be too hot.”

Nigeria have been drawn against Argentina, Croatia and Iceland in Group D .
