Armed robbery attack on SDA during watch night service leaves one injured

One person has been injured after a gang of armed robbers attacked members of the Adoato-Adumanu branch of the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church during an all-night prayer service Sunday.

The victim, Dr Osei Mensah, was hit in the head with the butt of a pump-action assault rifle by one of the robbers who was angered by the victim’s delay to surrender to them his personal belongings.

He has since been treated and discharged by a health facility in Kumasi.
The robbers took away cash of over GHȻ 8,000, mobile phones, electronic gadgets and other personal belongings of their victims.

The attack is the second in two weeks on the church in Kumasi after a similar incident struck at the Ahinsan SDA Church.

The three robbers, with masks covering their faces, stormed the church at about 3 am Sunday morning while members were busily praying at a service they started on Saturday night.

Members of the church were left in a state of despair after the incident, forcing the service to end abruptly.

Head Pastor of the Church, Richard Amponsah-Acheampong who is one of the victims says members of the church are traumatized by the incident.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the church says it is concerned about the security of its members.

The Mid-Central Ghana Conference says security of branches in the conference would be strengthened as such attacks have become rampant.
