BARCELONA star Lionel Messi has reportedly warned the La Liga giants that Real Madrid will strengthen in the January transfer window.
Real Madrid are still reeling from last week’s 3-0 defeat to Barcelona at the Bernabeu.
Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Aleix Vidal all got on the scoresheet to ensure the Catalan club sit 14 points clear of their fierce rivals in the La Liga table.
However, the silver lining of that defeat may be that club president Florentino Perez is ready to splash the cash after three years of relatively tame transfer business.
And Spanish outlet Don Balon claim Messi has warned the Barcelona squad that Real will sign a striker next month.
Los Blancos’ problems up front are well documented.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been a far cry from his usual self, managing to hit just four league goals all season.
Karim Benzema’s form has also represented cause for concern with Real still clearly missing Alvaro Morata, who was sold to Chelsea in the summer.
Real currently have just one other senior striker to call upon in Borja Mayoral.
But Borja, Don Balon say, does not have the backing of manager Zinedine Zidane.
As a result, Messi thinks Real are set to invest in a centre-forward when the transfer window reopens in January.
And several names are in the frame to make the move to the Bernabeu.
Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could seal a transfer with the Bundesliga club determined to offload the Chile international.
Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi is another being linked but, speaking recently, the Argentine appeared to rule out a move away from the San Siro.
“I wouldn’t answer,” he said when quizzed on what he would do if Madrid got in touch.
“I do what I have to do on the field and then there are other people who take care of these matters.”
