Man Utd only have TWO world-class players… and Paul Pogba is not one of them – Cascarino

JOSE MOURINHO is right to bemoan Manchester United’s spending, because he lacks world-class talent at Old Trafford.
That’s according to former Republic of Ireland star Tony Cascarino, who claims Mourinho’s squad is filled with “very good” players.

Mourinho said yesterday after United’s 2-2 draw with Burnley the £300million he has spent during his time with the Red Devils is “not enough” to compete.

He pointed to the fact Pep Guardiola was able to spend close to £200m on three full-backs and a goalkeeper last summer.

Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof were drafted in by Manchester United for £140m in the last transfer window.

But his acquisitions have not proved to be enough to challenge City for the title this season, and Guardiola’s side have the opportunity to open up a 15-point lead at the top of the table this evening if they can beat Newcastle.
And Cascarino agrees with Mourinho that he needs to spend more money while also suggesting only David De Gea and Antonio Valencia could be classified as world-class talents right now.

“I’m not surprised José Mourinho says he needs to spend more money — Manchester United don’t have many world-class players,” Cascarino told The Times.

“David De Gea is probably the best goalkeeper in the world and I rate Antonio Valencia as one the best right backs in Europe.

“Paul Pogba has potential to be world class and Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are still inconsistent. After that United are short.

“They have lots of what I would call very good players, in the seven or eight out of ten category.
“I include in that one man who struggled yesterday — Romelu Lukaku — and another who shone — Jesse Lingard.

“I have said before that I rate Lukaku as a goalscorer and he’ll get 20 goals this season. It’s more that he isn’t that strong technically and can sometimes go missing in games.

“He was excellent in the 2-2 draw against Leicester City but looked off the pace against Burnley and it’s in these games that United need inspiration and star quality.

“Instead they relied on another “very good” player in Lingard.”
