Man Utd urged to make swoop for Alexis Sanchez because of Robin van Persie

TONY CASCARINO has urged Manchester United to put all their efforts into pushing through a deal for Alexis Sanchez next month.

The former Republic of Ireland star believes Sanchez has the potential to emulate Robin van Persie’s successful switch to Old Trafford.

Sanchez is expected to leave Arsenal either next month or at the end of the season as he will be a free agent in the summer.

Arsene Wenger has maintained that he doesn’t expect the Chile international to leave in January, but they may be forced to cash in with the prospect of losing him for nothing.

Manchester City are the heavy favourites to sign him and are expected to return with another bid next month after failing to complete a deal before the start of the season.

Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich have also been linked but Pep Guardiola’s side seem to be leading the charge.

However, Jose Mourinho came out yesterday with an outburst claiming United haven’t spent enough to challenge for the title, despite bringing in £300million worth of talent since arriving at Old Trafford.

And Cascarino insists Sanchez would be the ideal signing to kickstart United’s league campaign.

“Lingard’s success is symbolic of why United will finish second, or even third, and Manchester City will cruise to the title,” Cascarino told The Times.

“Look at Sergio Agüero — he would walk into United’s team and yet he often finds himself on the bench under Pep Guardiola.

“I think United should try to snatch Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.

“They managed it with Robin van Persie, and Mourinho would be able to offer him assured starts, whereas he might face more competition at City.”
