The Minority in Parliament has tabled a motion for the Speaker, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye to summon a meeting of Parliament over the allegations that the Trade Ministry charged expatriates an amount up to $100,000 at an awards ceremony organized by the Millennium Excellence Foundation just to be allocated some special seats at the event.
A memo by the Minority, forwarded to the Speaker of Parliament and sighted by Kasapafmonline.com has indicated the urgent need for investigations to be carried into the matter by the House.
The Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak and his colleague legislator from his side, the North Tongu Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa who both signed the memo want parliament to take urgent steps towards investigating the matter properly.
Background
The Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak, first questioned the propriety of the said charges in Parliament weeks ago.
The Member of Parliament for Asawase, Muntaka Mubarak had alleged on the floor of parliament that the fees charged at the Ghana Expatriate Business Awards were not approved by Parliament, adding that the monies accrued were also not accounted for in the Internally Generated Funds [IGF] of the Ministry’s accounts.
The Ghana Business Expatriates awards was held on December 8 at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra where Twenty-four expatriate businesses operating in the country were honoured for their outstanding performance over the years.
