England set to bid for World Cup 2030 with FA chiefs ‘confident of bringing football home’

England set to bid for World Cup 2030 with FA chiefs 'confident of bringing football home'

FA bigwigs are determined that they can now secure the finals after learning from mistakes of previous failed bids
The FA are quietly confident of bringing the World Cup to England in 2030.

Britain’s football boffins are determined to shrug off the disappointment at losing out on the 2006 and 2018 finals by introducing a fresh strategy to finally bring football home.

The defeated bids have acted as an education to the FA who are wary that they came across as arrogant in their previous attempts.

England is keen to host more major sporting events following the success of the Olympics in 2012, the Rugby World Cup in 2015 and the Commonwealth Games above the border in Glasgow in 2014.

A major reason the government is funding 75 per cent of Birmingham’s 2022 Commonwealth Games bid is to host another sporting event – knowing it could lead to brownie points with FIFA chiefs when it comes to the World Cup.
The FA know they have to go about things the right way if they are to get the 2030 finals.

A senior FA source told The Sun: “It means showing we are at the heart of UEFA and European football, rather than going on about how special we are.

“That didn’t really work for 2018. This time it has to be different but what has happened for Euro 2020 is evidence our relationship with UEFA has changed.
“We have to carry that forward. And it would also help if the England team started to show the same successes as our junior sides have done in 2017.”

UEFA reportedly want to put forward a single European candidate for the 2030 competition ahead of a likely joint bid from South American nations Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay.

Alexander Seferin, the new UEFA chief, is a big fan of English football and the decision to give London four additional Euro 2020 matches originally scheduled for Brussels – shows England is back in favour.
