Rotary Club of Accra Osu Oxford Streets Hosts Blacks Stars Side for Goals for Orphans

Rotary Club Accra Osu Oxford Street hosted a session of the Old and Current Black Stars Players, media, management of the Ghana Football Association, as well as the Professional Football Association of Ghana members to raise funds to support orphans in the society.

The first edition of the Program which took place at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on 30 December 2017, christened “Goals for Orphans” saw notable Old and Current Black Stars Players in a seven aside soccer match.

Steven Appiah, Richard Kingston, Akwesi Appiah, Coach Maxwell Konadu, Tony Baffoe, Kwesi Nyantakyi, Asamoah Gyan,Jonathan Mensah, Ibrahim Tanko among others were present to support the Goals for Orphan fundraising soccer gala.

Speaking to the President of the Rotary Club Osu Oxford Street district, he expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Stars who showed up to support the program. He added that the initiative, Goal for Orphans, is here to stay and looks forward to a grand event in 2018.




“I must thank the entire team of Rotary Osu Oxford Street and particularly the Ghana Football Association, the Professional Football Association as well for bringing all most of the stars onboard to support this initiative. Since this was the first initiative and have been successful, we look forwarding to hosting a lot more of members and the Stars again in 2018” Rotarian Jimbily said.

“Next year, we are expecting two teams from the Black Stars to grace the occasion, both the old and current Players and get more teams involve at different stages for a full day’s program. We also expect other corporate bodies to also support this “Goals for Orphan” initiative by the Rotary Club Osu-Oxford Street” he said.

The President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi presented the trophy to the Rotary Club Osu Oxford Street who emerged victors of the soccer game. He lauded the District Branch for such good charity initiatives.

“Let me on behalf of the Players and members present than the organizers for such a great program. To support laudable initiative like this is commendable. Sports and charity are best follows especially soccer as most footballers have also committed to support charitable initiatives” Nyantakyi mentioned.

Assistant Governor Victor Yaw Asante also shared some few messages regarding the program.

Teresa Effie Cooke, Director of Public Relation also thanked the Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi, and the Black Stars Players who showed up for the event. She however extolled the support they showed during the maiden edition of the “Goals for Orphans” and called members to continue to support this initiative.

Deputy General Secretary of CAF, Founder and General Secretary of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), Tony Baffoe also expressed his support for the “Goals for Orphan” initiative and called on other Players to also give back to society.

Meanwhile Rotary Club Accra – Osu Oxford street in 2017 embarked on several charitable programs notable , the Visitation to St Anna Family home & Royal Seed Orphanage where books, Food items, clothing were donated to them as well as cash of GHS 4,000  just to mention but a few.
