You’re a statesman; criticise NPP government – Gyampo to Rawlings

A senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has said Former President Jerry John Rawlings will be doing Ghanaians a great disservice if he decides to concentrate only on dealing with the problems within his party the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but fail to criticise the Akufo-Addo government.

According to him, Mr Rawlings is a statesman therefore, he should rise above the main opposition party in the country which he founded.




Mr Rawlings has justified his constant criticism of the NDC by stating that “I cannot lay claim to the position of party founder and spend time criticising another party or institution when my house is burning. Removing the log in my eye is the only way to legitimise any right to expose the speck in another’s.”

However reacting to this development on TV3 News, Prof Gyampo believed that Mr Rawlings was wrong on that principle because “he is a statesman.”
