JOSE MOURINHO’s subtle digs about Manchester United’s spending is not going down well with the club’s hierarchy.
The Portuguese boss has made no secret of his frustrations at United falling 15 points behind league leaders Manchester City, suggesting he doesn’t have the squad capable of challenging for the title.
Jose Mourinho even claimed the £260million he’s spent in the last 18 months is ‘not enough’.
And his comments about previous transfer windows have left United bosses angry at him for coming across ungrateful for the funding provided.
The Daily Mail claim one prominent Old Trafford figurehead has even discussed his views privately that he believes reports linking United to several high profile names this month have their origin in people close to Mourinho.
The club are willing to tolerate the former Chelsea manager’s vocal opinions on referees and opposition managers but won’t stand for him belittling the club’s spending when they have spent the likes of £89m on Paul Pogba.
United are pleased with the progress Mourinho has made on the pitch and want to ensure he continues building the club back up to the glory days of the Sir Alex Ferguson era.
And to do that, the Daily Mail claim executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is ready to fund Mourinho’s latest requests in the summer.
They state he is already making plans to bring in two marquee signings in the summer but it is unclear if they will bolster their ranks this month.
Reports suggest Mourinho is keen to sign Lucas Moura from Paris Saint-Germain during the winter window.
The 25-year-old has rarely featured in Ligue 1 this season and the French giants could be prepared to cash in on him.
However, United are only thought to be exploring the possibility of a loan deal before committing to a permanent switch.
PSG are playing hardball though and want United to commit to paying £40m for his signature in the summer if they allow him to move to Old Trafford in January.
