Manchester United hand academy starlet Angel Gomes ‘one of their biggest-ever youth player contracts’

Manchester United have reportedly dished out one of their largest-ever youth player contracts to academy starlet Angel Gomes .

The 17-year-old is rated as one of the most promising prospects at Carrington and had been attracting the attention of Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund in recent months.

But Gomes has shunned any talk of a move abroad and penned his first professional deal with the Red Devils last month.

And according to the Sun , he has landed a £17,000-a-week deal, not including squad and appearance bonus, with the report suggesting he could be earning £25,000-a-week as the deal progresses.
Gomes, who was part of the England Under-17 World Cup winning squad, made his United first-team debut when he replaced Wayne Rooney against Crystal Palace at the end of last season.

He was aged just 16 years and 263 days, meaning he was the youngest player to represent the club since Duncan Edwards in 1953.

Upon signing his deal last month, the teenager said:

“Manchester United has always been a big part of my life.
“I have been with the club since the age of six and it was a proud moment for me when I made my first team debut.
“This club is renowned for giving home-grown players opportunities to progress into the first team.

“That was a major factor in me signing my first professional contract at this great club.

“I am still young but am looking forward to continuing my development with the help of the coaching staff.”
