Akufo-Addo now Ghana’s ‘Chief Justice’ – Asiedu Nketia

The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr. Johnson Kwadwo Asiedu Nketia says President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has now arrogated to himself the powers of Ghana’s Chief Justice giving judgments on sensitive issues in his government in the court of public opinion.

According to him, the president after assuming office has drawn conclusions on almost everything on corruption interrupting the work of the law courts.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry was involved in controversy with respect to claims that monies were taken from expatriates at an event in return for seats close to the President at dinner.

It was alleged that, the ministry took between $25000 and $100,000 from those who wished to sit close to the president during the Ghana Expatriates Business Award event.

Parliament is yet to deliberate on the matter in an emergency sitting as the minority Chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak raised the issue on the floor of parliament.

Some social commentators have described the sitting unnecessary as they claim there is no way parliament is going to condemn the ministry considering previous precedence.

But General Mosquito as the NDC scribe is affectionately called, has described the president’s comments on the trade ministry’s cash for presidential dinner seats as unacceptable.

“Nana Addo’s comment on corruption all the time has not been good. Even when the matter concerns him, he is able to testify he has investigated the matter and that ‘there is nothing wrong”. He lamented

To him, Mr. Asiedu Nketia, the president is now working as Ghana’s Chief Justice.

He further continued that, it would have been better if the president had not commented on the issue in the first place than makes statements that smacks of embarrassment.
