Former Chief of Defence Staff Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah (rtd) has said he is not a member of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for him to have endorsed the flagbearer bid of former Minister of Trade and Industry, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah as reported by some media.
Mr Spio-Garbrah launched his ‘Forward Agenda’ on Wednesday which he intends to use to galvanise momentum for his bid to lead the NDC into the 2020 elections.
Present at the event was the retired military officer who was reported to have described Mr Spio-Garbrah as a liberator and motivator of the Ghanaian youth as well as the NDC’s best bet.
The former CDS, however, told 3FM’s Sunrise programme hosted by Winston Amoah on Friday, 5 December that: “I never made such remarks about he running for the NDC flagbearer because I am not an NDC member. I don’t have a vote in NDC”.
“There was a cocktail for journalists where he invited me. So, I said I supported his project to support young persons. I made that comment of supporting his bid to helping young people of being on their own”.
“The reason why I joined him is to encourage young people and not to endorse him for NDC flagbearership”, the retired officer said.
