Luke Shaw expects to stay at Manchester United until the summer after private meeting with Jose Mourinho at hotel

Luke Shaw expects to stay at Manchester United until at least the summer after assuring Jose Mourinho he is fit enough.

Shaw, 22, has endured an unsettled season at Old Trafford where he has struggled for game time since returning from a foot operation last spring.

But he is now back in the first team and being embraced by Mourinho, who has previously criticised him publicly.

After having to wait until December for his first League start of the season, Shaw has now played United’s last three games and is set for a run in the side with Ashley Young banned.

MirrorSport understands Mourinho quietly pulled the left-back aside at United’s team hotel recently to get assurances he was fully fit and could be relied upon.
Shaw needed an operation on his foot last spring and Mourinho wanted to know he was ready physically and mentally for regular duty.

Shaw is up for the fight but knows his long-term future remains in doubt with just 12 months left on his contract this summer.

United are eyeing other left-backs including Spurs Danny Rose and Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon.
But Shaw knows if he impresses between now and the end of the season he will get either a lucrative new deal at United or elsewhere.

He is on £80,000-a-week and MirrorSport revealed on September 5 that United taken up a one-year option to automatically extend his deal until 2019.
