MANCHESTER UNITED are the frontrunners in the race to sign Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil but Juventus are reportedly waiting in the wings.
Ozil has six months left on his Arsenal contract and is yet to reach an agreement with the club over a renewal.
Should the German tell the Gunners that his future lies away from the Emirates, they face having to sell in January or lose him on a free transfer in June.
Ozil is also now able to sign a pre-contract with a foreign club if he wishes.
And Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo say Juventus are aware of Ozil’s situation and prepared to move for the 29-year-old.
A move to the Italian champions would see Ozil reunite with compatriot and former Real Madrid team-mate Sami Khedira and ex-Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
But the report states that Manchester United are leading the chase for Ozil.
Last month, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger claimed Ozil wanted to stay at the club.
“I believe he wants to stay, he is not to be convinced [to sign a new contract],” said Wenger.
“You want nobody to leave and you see where we stand on that. But at the moment, it’s very difficult.
“Until the end of the season we know what it is, but after that, I cannot tell you.”
