LIVERPOOL midfielder Gini Wijnaldum has hailed Philippe Coutinho, becoming the first player to react to his move to Barcelona.
Since Liverpool and Barcelona reached an agreement over a £142million deal, no player from Anfield has given their response to the move.
The Liverpool squad has since flown to Dubai for some warm-weather training ahead of their clash with Manchester City on Saturday.
And just prior to Barcelona’s announcement that Coutinho had completed his move to the Nou Camp, Wijnaldum broke the silence by posting a picture of the pair on Instagram with the caption: “It’s been a pleasure playing with you and watching you playing.
“My very best wishes for the future.”
Coutinho did not feature in Liverpool’s last two matches due to injury but was able to say farewell to the players.
But the Brazilian told the Daily Mail he would like to return to Merseyside for a proper goodbye.
“I gave 100 per cent, 100 per cent of the time I played for Liverpool,” Coutinho said.
Five years, I did everything I could possibly do. I love this club, but it is time for a new adventure.
“I have so many memories and have so many people to thank at Liverpool. I have to improve as a player. In my head, I always think this.
“I understand the size of the task ahead, the cost of the transfer, the status of the deal but this is about ambition, dreams. I want to play with the best player in the world.
“But I will return to Liverpool to say goodbye, to my team-mates, to staff and to the people who helped me and my family. I owe them a lot.
“Now I am loo
king forward. It’s time. Yes, it’s time.”
