Woyome is very happy about Amidu’s appointment - Spokesperson

Contrary to claims embattled businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome may be experiencing a ‘running tummy’ over the appointment of his perceived arch-rival, Martin Alamisi Burnes Kaiser Amidu as the Special Prosecutor subject to the approval of parliament, his spokesperson, Reginald Dobge reveals he is happy for him.

He disclosed that Mr Woyome could not be bothered about Amidu’s appointment considering how he has tormented him in the law courts over the controversial GH¢51.2 million judgment.

“My boss is very happy about the appointment of Amidu and is not bothered at all. He is not a criminal to be scared of Amidu. Amidu is a professional lawyer and won’t take any decision without any concrete evidence” he said on Accra-based Neat fm.

Reginald Dobge disclosed that proceedings at the courts are grounded on law and not personal sentiments indicating that a seasoned lawyer like the citizen vigilante is expected discharge his responsibility diligently and professionally.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday, January 11, 2018 named the Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice under the late Professor Mills administration as Ghana’s first Independent Prosecutor.

This was after the Attorney General, Gloria Akuffo exercised her power of nomination, and submitted to him, for his acceptance, the name of Martin Amidu as the proposed Special Prosecutor.

“I have accepted the Attorney General’s nomination, and will, in turn, submit for Parliament’s approval, when it reconvenes on 23rd January 2018, for its first meeting of this new year, the name of Martin Alamisi Burnes Kaiser Amidu to be the first Special Prosecutor under the law”, he disclosed on Thursday

Soon after the announcement, there were indications this will be the waterloo of the embattled businessman as it was set to worsen his woes in an already murky situation he finds himself.

But his spokesperson wants the naysayers to be mindful of their utterances revealing that his boss is not in any way scared of presenting his case before the courts and the rest of the world regardless of who is the Independent Special Prosecutor.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor will have the mandate to investigate and prosecute cases of alleged corruption under the Public Procurement Act 203 Act 63 and other corruption-related offenses implicating public officers, political office holders and their accomplices in the public sector.
