Man Utd have made huge mistake in chase for Alexis Sanchez – Steve Nicol

MANCHESTER UNITED have entered the race to sign Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez far too late to prevent him from joining Manchester City.

That is the verdict of legendary Liverpool defender turned pundit Steve Nicol.

Sanchez is out of contract at Arsenal at the end of the season and is linked with a move away this month to prevent him leaving for free in the summer.

Manchester City were favourites to sign the Chile forward after failing with a deadline-day move last August.

However, United have emerged as candidates, making a £25million offer for him on Thursday.

But Nicol believes Alexis Sanchez has his heart set on a move to City and says that would be the right move for him.

“I think it’s a bit too late, to be honest,” Nicol told ESPN FC.

“I think if Sanchez has already spoken to City, as we believe he has, if Sanchez has already discussed money, as we believe he has, he’s not going to turn round to Pep and say ‘oh by the way, I’ve changed my mind and I’m going across the world to Manchester United’.

“Who would you go to? If you had a choice between Manchester United and Manchester City and you’re a top-class, world-class football player, that already has titles behind him, you go to the best team.

“The best team clearly right now is Manchester City.

“Whether it’s now, or whether it’s in the summer.

“I don’t see this changing, I think he goes to Man City.”
