Liverpool held Alexis Sanchez transfer talks but two things stopped Man Utd battle

LIVERPOOL talked over a move for Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez but two things stopped them rivalling both Manchester United and Manchester City for the player’s signature, reports say.
Sanchez looks set to join Manchester United from Arsenal despite for months wanting to join Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Liverpool were mooted as potential suitors days ago, with the Reds boosted from the £142million sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona.

But the Daily Mirror say two things put them off rivalling both clubs for the player.

It is said Liverpool boss Klopp held talks with owners FSG over a potential transfer.

Klopp was reportedly tempted to chance his arm and pursue a deal.
But they supposedly only considered entering the battle if they received intel that he was ready to reject the advances of Jose Mourinho and Guardiola at United and City respectively.

The Daily Mirror add a second reason Liverpool refused to be drawn into the saga was because of his wage demands.

Sanchez is set to pocket a huge £350,000 a week should he move to Old Trafford.

And Liverpool were simply adamant they would not bow to the player’s demands.
Meanwhile, speaking yesterday, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitted a resolution to the player’s future was close.

“I don’t master the rhythm of it, but it could happen today, tomorrow or not at all,” said Wenger.

“It will be decided in the next 48 hours.

“Don’t read too much in it because even I don’t know which way it will go.”
