Don’t Praise-Sing Akufo-Addo Today – Sikanku To Journalists

Communications lecturer Dr. Etse Sikanku has urged journalists who will make it to the Flagstaff House today to avoid sycophantic questions as they engage President Akufo-Addo on his first year in office.

He said the media must, instead, query the President on relevant issues that matter to the Ghanaian people.

“The media meeting the President is a rare communication tool and must be maximized by the media. As a media, we should ask the very sharp, pointed and specific questions when before the President today.

“It would be prudent if Journalists go on the streets and talk to the people of Ghana. They should make it a point to know what their (citizens) concerns are and ask questions along those lines. We must avoid glorification of the president, avoid sycophantic questions. Ask straight and poignant questions,” he told Francis Abban on the Morning Starr Wednesday.



This is the second time the President is meeting the press since he ascended the Presidency on January 7, 2016.

A similar exercise was conducted in July 2017.

Issues concerning vigilantism, the economy, Ghana’s stands on homosexuality, budget for the special initiative ministry and corruption are expected to dominate today’s media engagement.

Akufo-Addo defeated the NDC’s John Mahama in the December 2016 elections on his third attempt at the presidency.
